Breaking the rules? Power, Participation and Transgression

21-24 June 2021 - Helsinki, Finland

The Call for Panels, Roundtables, Workshops and Combined Formats is now open for SIEF2021 Breaking the rules? Power, participation and transgression that will take place in Helsinki, Finland around the magic of Midsummer next year - 21-24 June 2021.

With the theme Breaking the rules? Power, participation and transgression, we encourage participants to explore the dynamics, modes, arenas and implications of breaking the rules and to revisit and discuss the underlying concepts.

Rulebreaking is often an agent of change, revealing the (dis)ruptures in our societies - we propose to examine what "breaking the rules" has implied and implies in social, economic, political, cultural and academic contexts. Besides the diverse, intersecting epistemological threads this theme can unravel and weave, SIEF2021 also invites you to think out of the box when proposing your contributions: while traditional panels are an expected part of the Call, the Scientific Committee also encourages proposals of alternative formats and combined formats to bring further facets to the collective rule breaking.

Please read an exploration of the theme, acquaint yourself with the formats, rules and guidelines on the Call for Panels etc page before scrolling down to the link to propose your contribution. All panels must be proposed online: we do not accept proposals made via email.

Note that SIEF2021 is likely to have both face-to-face and virtual elements, the balance of which will depend on the global health situation in 2021.
