“African Sustainable Communities” is an exciting MA program that includes a year of study at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, Israel, followed by the implementation of a three-month project in a local community in Africa.  The program targets students from a wide range of disciplines, and aims to create a community of diverse interest and vibrant dialogue around questions of community development and sustainability. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, the program includes courses in history, politics, sociology, economics, development studies, and cultural studies, and also draws upon Ben-Gurion University’s strong reputation in environmental studies, desert studies, global health, and more. Our aim is to provide students with the theoretical background, analytical skills and practical perspectives that are needed for realizing individual and communal endeavors across a broad spectrum of fields. We are committed to nurturing a learning environment based on rich experiences both inside and outside the classroom, drawing upon the expertise of scholars, activists, practitioners and policymakers and by supporting each student to pursue their field of interest.

We are currently recruiting students for this unique opportunity.  Students can apply for full or partial scholarships, and can also be provided with student dormitories.  The registration deadline is for scholarship applicants is April 16, 2022.
