Re: Call for Papers, Fall 2018 SERSAS Conference
SERSAS, in conjunction with the Department of History and Geography and the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia College, is pleased to announce the initial call for papers for our upcoming conference, 12-13 October 2018, in historic Milledgeville, GA.
"Africa in the World and the World in Africa. Making an African World Through Global Connections."
As interactions between Africa, Africans and the world continue to expand and intensify, scholars have paid greater attention to the historical and current interplay among capitalism, culture, colonialism and development in a global context. Following from themes developed in W.E.B. Du Bois' _The World and Africa_ and Fred Cooper's _Africa in the World_, the conference theme invites proposals for papers and presentations that address the centrality of Africa and Africans' roles in shaping their own destinies in the wider world, and proposals which similarly seek to disrupt conventional thinking about African states and societies in the global context from earliest times to the present.
SERSAS prides itself on providing a collegial environment for presentations of both conventional papers and innovative roundtables. Proposals on the conference or other themes from faculty independent scholars and graduate students are welcome. Graduate Student presentations are welcome and SERSAS will make an award for best graduate paper(s) presented.
Please send proposals (entire panel proposals are also welcome) not exceeding 300 words to: Dr. Aran MacKinnon . The deadline for proposals is 28 September.
