In the Footsteps of Bertha Pappenheim: Digital Tours of Jewish Life in Frankfurt am Main around 1900

The Bertha Pappenheim Map is an invitation to take three digital tours of Frankfurt am Main. Optimized for smartphone and tablet, these audio walks follow in the footsteps of the Jewish social reformer and women’s rights activist, Bertha Pappenheim (1859–1936), to explore the history of the city’s Jewish community in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The three tours—through the Westend District, the Station District & City Center, and the Ostend District turn the spotlight on everyday life, education and social work, xenophobia, migration, human trafficking, and the struggle for women’s rights—and draw parallels with these same issues today.
