Passing of Prof. Aaron Oppenheimer

H-Judaic is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Aaron Oppenheimer (1940-2022), Sir Isaac Wolfson Emeritus Professor of Jewish Studies at Tel Aviv University.  Trained at the Hebrew University, Prof. Oppenheimer specialized in Jewish history during the Rabbinic Period. His books included The 'Am Ha-Haaretz: A Study in the Social History of the Jewish People in the Hellenistic-Roman Period. Leiden: E.J. brill, Netherland 1977; Rabbi Judah ha-nasi. Statesman, Reformer, and Redactor of the Mishnah.
