The History Department in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral teaching fellowship in the history of the Ancient Mediterranean world including North Africa, Mesopotamia, and West Asia. The position will begin in August 2022.

Responsibilities include teaching, researching, and developing curriculum in the successful candidate’s areas of expertise. Teaching load is 3/3, meaning that in regular Fall and Spring semesters, the faculty member will teach three (3- to 4- credit) courses one semester and three (3- to 4-credit) courses the other semester. Courses will be taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses may be offered face-to-face or online per needs of the department. ABDs may apply, but candidates must submit evidence of the receipt of the PhD degree by June 2022.

The fellow will be actively mentored by senior faculty, which includes a focus on advancing their research and publications as well as developing a portfolio of courses to enhance their academic vitae. The fellow will be awarded $1,500 in annual professional development funds to facilitate their research and participation in scholarly conferences and workshops.

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $55,000 - $60,000 per academic year.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in History or related humanities field (ABDs may apply, but candidates must submit evidence of the receipt of the PhD degree by June 2022.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree emphasis on Ancient History, including the Mediterranean world, Mesopotamia, North Africa, and West Asia.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required move. Employee may occasionally be required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
