Rabbi Micha Odenheimer lecture/interview will address the question of where Judaism and Jewishness can have an impact in trying to create a more just and beautiful world for all of humanity. Can a critique of current economic and social justice practices be mounted from within Jewish tradition? What is the place of ethics inspired by Judaism or Jewish history, and why is it necessary? Is "Tikkun Olam" an effective umbrella for Jewish social justice ideas and action? How do "Tikkun Olam", or other iterations of Judaism's social justice thrust, fit in with other concerns in the Jewish world today, such as Zionism and the fight against assimilation?

Micha Odenheimer is a rabbi, journalist and social entrepreneur. He was born in Berkeley California, graduated with honors from Yale University with a BA in Religious Studies in 1980, was a close disciple of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and in 1985 was ordained as an Orthodox Rabbi by Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, the leading authority on Jewish Law in his generation.

This event is with The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ
