The University of Vienna, in connection with the Salo W. and Jeannette M. Baron Foundation, has awarded the first Salo W. and Jeannette M. Baron Awards for Scholarly Excellence in Research of the Jewish Experience in 2021.
This year’s senior laureate is Michael Brenner. Like Salo Baron, he bridges in his life and research Europe and the United States. Michael Brenner is Professor of Jewish History and Culture at Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich and Seymour and Lillian Abensohn Chair in Israel Studies at American University in Washington, DC.
Two junior scholars, Rachel Blumenthal (Jerusalem) and Daniel M. Herskowitz (Oxford) will be awarded the Salo W. and Jeannette M. Baron Young Scholar Awards for their previous and ongoing important research work in the fields of Jewish identity and experience.
