Dear colleagues,
I'm writing to share two CfPs for next year's MLA convention, "Vernacular Science" and "Yiddish, Yinglish, English: Rendering the Multilingual Immigrant Text in a Dominant Language". Abstracts are due by March 19, please be in touch with questions. These two panels have been proposed by the LLC Yiddish forum's executive committee, which I am chairing this year. We would love to hear from other MLA members interested to participate in the Yiddish forum in future years.

Vernacular Science
Yiddish is used to translate and promote information about health and hygiene. What conceptions of care are contained in scientific language and how may Yiddish translations challenge these values and assumptions? 250 word abstracts/brief bio. Deadline for submissions: Friday, 19 March 2021 Madeleine Cohen, Yiddish Book Center (mcohen@yiddishbookcenter.org )
Yiddish, Yinglish, English: Rendering the Multilingual Immigrant Text in a Dominant Language
Can English translations give readers access to the multilingual US context of American Yiddish writing? To the multilinguality of Yiddish literature itself? Or do they risk further erasure of that multilingualism? 250 word abstracts/brief bio. Deadline for submissions: Friday, 19 March 2021 Madeleine Cohen, Yiddish Book Center (mcohen@yiddishbookcenter.org )
