Job Overview

The Department of Judaic Studies at the University of Cincinnati and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (Cincinnati campus) invite applications for the position  Assistant Professor Educator in Modern Hebrew. This is a full-time position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 15, 2022. The initial appointment through UC is for three years consisting of one year with the option of a two-year extension.  There is also the possibility of renewal for an additional two years. 

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in language teaching, facility in instructional technologies, competency in working with students at different levels and abilities, on-line teaching capability, and native or near-native fluency. 

  • Teaching responsibilities include courses in Beginning, Intermediate Hebrew for UC and Advanced Hebrew for both HUC-JIR and UC. 
  • In addition, the educator will administer and promote the Modern Hebrew curriculum, foster Hebrew engagement and programs throughout the Cincinnati community, and help train and supervise adjunct instructors. 
  • The teaching load is three-four courses per semester at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. 

Minimum Requirements

B.A. or higher, clear evidence of teaching effectiveness, programming experience, and fluency or near-fluency in Modern Hebrew.
