The Department of State’s Advisory Committee for Historical Diplomatic Documentation will hold a public meeting on December 5, 2022, which attendees are welcome to attend either virtually or in person. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a presentation on the recently published Foreign Relations of the United States, 1981-1988, vol. I, Foundations of Foreign Policy. The volume focuses on the intellectual foundations of the foreign policy pursued by President Ronald Reagan and members of his administration. The Office of the Historian’s Kristin Ahlberg, who researched and compiled the volume, will discuss the unique methodological challenges involved in producing it and highlight three of its primary themes: Ronald Reagan’s attempt to draw a sharp distinction between his foreign policy and that of Jimmy Carter; to restore U.S. strength; and to promote democracy and democratic movements.

To attend, please RSVP via email to FortJL@state.gov. Instructions on how to join the meeting, virtually or in person, will be provided upon receipt of RSVP.
