Deadline for Paper Proposals: April 14, 2020

Seeking papers for a panel at the German HIstory Soceity Annual Conference from either a junior or senior scholar on a topic relating to any German-speaking community's (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or minority group in Central and Eastern Europe) engagment with the ideas of self-determination during the Interwar Era. Papers on German cultural relations with other ethnic groups and the use of the memory of the First World War to further political goals are also welcomed. We are particuraly interested in any papers that discuss German campagins involving the post-war plebiscties (1920 Schleswig Plebiscite, 1920 East Prussia Plebisicte, 1920 Carinthian Plebiscite, 1921 Upper Silsea Plebiscte, and 1935 Saarland Plebiscite) and the expression of natoinalism within the European borderlands of Central and Eastern Europe.
