Type:
Fellowship

Currently, you can apply for a Fellowship at the Historisches Kolleg in the academic year 2024/2025.

We invite applications for up to six full-year fellowships
during the academic year 1 October 2024 – 30 September 2025.
Fellowships are open to established researchers in all history-related fields who are currently employed in a university faculty or independent research institute and are distinguished by their outstanding research record. The aim of a fellowship is to allow the fellow to complete an outstanding academic publication.

Fellowships are also open to post-doctorate researchers in history-related fields and should lead to the completion of a second book.

The Historisches Kolleg in Munich is an Institute for Advanced Study specialising in history and its neighbour disciplines. Through scholarship grants, it offers academics the opportunity to focus on a book project without other commitments. The Historisches Kolleg is situated at Kaulbach Villa, between the Bavarian State Library and the English Garden. The fellows are free from university teaching and administrative tasks and can fully concentrate on their research and writing with the full support of the Kolleg’s permanent staff. Fellows are required to be resident in Munich for the duration of their stay.

The fellowships are awarded by the Kolleg’s board of trustees with the support of external expert advisors. Applications must be tendered by 30 April 2023. All applications will be treated confidentially. Equal opportunities are observed. All decisions are final.

Advanced Fellowships

In each Kolleg year, Advanced Fellowships are awarded to established scholars of all historically oriented disciplines who are employed at universities or non-university research institutions and who have demonstrated outstanding research achievements.

Consolidator Fellowships

The Consolidator Fellowships are aimed at postdoctoral students of all historically oriented subjects working towards completing a Habiliationsschrift or a second book.

Honorary Fellowships

Since 2009, the Honorary Fellowship has enabled outstanding scholars to live and work at the Historisches Kolleg for a shorter period of time (maximum six months).
