3rd Annual Indigenous Symposium, "Being Native Today: Indigenous Identities in the Gulf South" March 12th Virtual meeting
We wanted to let subscribers to this list know that the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South (NOCGS) is presenting the 3rd Annual Indigenous Symposium on March 12th virtually this year. The theme this year is Being Native Today: Indigenous Identities in the Gulf South. Participants will examine the different and dynamic components of Indian identity as well as explore the variety of ways in which diverse Native peoples understand what it means to be Indigenous today. This symposium will contain talks from a wide variety of disciplines and experiences including but not limited to history, storytelling, archaeology and song. The full schedule for the symposium and other pertinent information can be found at the following link> https://indigenoussymposium.tulane.edu
This symposium is free and open to the public, but registration is required (link below). This registration will allow all interested parties to also view the material at a later date when it may be more convenient and/or to share with a class or group of students at a time that works best for teachers and families. We believe that there is something for all age groups at the symposium this year and that this event will be a significant opportunity for everyone watching to learn more about the different Indigenous communities in Southern Louisiana, their cultural heritages as well as the challenges they face along with related activities and partnerships with these communities.
We look forward to seeing you virtually and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Laura D. Kelley, Ph.D.
