CFP: American Historical Association 2022 - Decolonizing Native Specialists

Edward Polanco Discussion

We are seeking individuals to join our panel on Native specialists, and their knowledge, for the 135th Meeting of the American Historical Association which will take place January 6-9, 2022, in New Orleans. This panel will focus on exploring Native knowledge from an Indigenous perspective and moving away from reductive terms like “shaman,” “witchdoctor,” “priest,” etc. We seek scholars from any discipline. We are particularly interested in including research that uses Native languages, ethnohistorical approaches, and Native methodologies. At the moment we have two panelists working on the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
