Keepers of the Forest is a new, open access academic documentary produced by myself (Dr. Darren R. Reid) which explores the history and culture of the Kaingang people of southern Brazil. The film is designed to serve as an introductory text for audiences wishing to:

  • Develop a broader understanding of the ways in which modern jNative American communities resist the colonising process.
  • Gain an insight into the culture and history of indigenous communities in the highlands of Brazil.
  • Understand how colonial narratives over simplify the perceived relationship between Native Americans and the natural world.
  • Engage with oral testimony of indigenous community members.

The film is 24 minutes long and features interviews with members of the Kaingang community and scholars on both sides of the Altlantic.

Thank you for sharing! I think we can learn a lot about indigenous cultures by looking at the struggle of the Kaingang.
