Collection Description (from online finding aid): Art Carter was an Afro-American journalist, sports reporter, and managing editor of the Afro-American Newspapers. Most materials relate to the Afro-American Newspapers, documents concerning Afro-American baseball, the Afro-American press, and organizations with which Carter was affiliated. Objects include primarily written files on sports, programs, tickets, photographs, and memorabilia. This collection also includes materials relating to Carter's activities at the Washington Afro-American newspaper, the Capital Press Club, and the National Newspaper Publishers Association, and to his activities as a war correspondent during World War II, reporting about Afro-American troops in North Africa and Italy.
