Call for Proposals

“Debating War in Kentucky”
The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society invites manuscript proposals for a special issue, “Debating War in Kentucky,” which will be published in 2019. Because Kentuckians are often celebrated for their fighting spirit, those individuals and groups in the state who have questioned war have often been downplayed or ignored by historians. We seek papers exploring debates about war and militarism in Kentucky, from the Revolutionary War through the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts in the early 2000s. Papers may explore topics as varied as draft resistance, pacifism and faith communities, political debates about war, peace groups and oppositional movements, or individual responses to U.S. wars. Proposals are encouraged from a range of disciplines and techniques.
The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society is a peer-reviewed, quarterly journal that publishes scholarly articles examining the history of Kentucky and its people. It is published in both print form and electronically on Project MUSE and JSTOR.
Scholars interested in participating in this project should submit an abstract of no more than six hundred words by October 1, 2016.
Electronic submissions are preferred. Authors should submit proposals to:
