The 2019 David B. Warren Symposium on American Material Culture and the Texas Experience:

A Diverse History: Texas, the Lower South, and the Southwest before 1900
February 22–23, 2019

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is accepting proposals for papers on diverse people and traditions in material culture and visual art in pre-1900 Texas, the Lower South, and the Southwest, to be presented at the 7th biennial David B. Warren Symposium in 2019 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. 

UPDATE--CFP: “White Supremacist/Nationalist/Separatist Utopias" (SUS 2018) new deadline 7/1/18

The submission deadline has been extended to July 1, 2018

 

Although the need to understand the imaginative and ideological coordinates of white supremacy has currently come to the fore, truly, it has been an ongoing concern. As George M. Fredrickson wrote in his classic 1981 study, 

 

Smithsonian American Art Museum Announces 2018–2019 Fellowship Appointments

The Smithsonian American Art Museum will host 18 new fellows for the 2018–2019 academic year. The museum’s program grants awards for scholars and students to pursue research at the museum, including senior, predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships. Recipients will be part of the premier residential fellowship in American art—one that celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020.
