"Crowd at Coney Island"

Jeff Allred's picture
How about one of Weegee's famous photographs of thousands of folks at Coney Island in the summer? Here is "Crowd at Coney Island" taken in 1940. Obviously no image "says it all," but I think this image a) nicely conforms to the panoramic proportions of a banner and b) captures central themes in the long history of America Studies as a discipline (e.g., urbanism, ethnic diversity, new media, mass entertainment, Whitmanic democracy, idiosyncratic fashion, et al.).
