CFP: Chair a Potomac Center Symposium

The Potomac Discussion
Call for Proposals: Chair a 2016–17 symposium for the Potomac Center for the Study of Modernity

Proposals are due Friday, February 26. Please forward this info to any interested parties.

Do you have an interdisciplinary research interest on which you'd like to convene a few top scholars from around North America?

The Potomac Center for the Study of Modernity funds symposia proposed by scholars in the greater Washington-Baltimore region. (All Faculty members, research scholars, and graduate students affiliated with local institutions are eligible to apply.) Accepted symposia will be chaired by the proposing scholar and organized in consultation with the Center, which will provide full support, including the travel and accommodation of speakers. Proposed symposia should be consonant with the interdisciplinary mission of the Potomac Center and the goals of its symposia.

Proposals should include a title and a one-page statement, indicating the reasons why an interdisciplinary conversation on the topic is important and timely. A list of proposed speakers and several alternates should also be included, together with the proposing chair’s c.v. The Center also welcomes inquiries and expressions of interest in symposium topics already in development

Information about our past symposia and the Spring 2016 symposium, The Status of Facts, may also be consulted on our website.

Proposals for 2016-17 symposia are due February 26, 2016 and may be sent to Joshua Shannon, Director, at shannon1@umd.edu. Consultation in advance of the deadline is encouraged. Decisions are made by the Center’s advisory board. All planning is made contingent on continued funding of the Center.
