Votes for Women/Statue of Liberty

Louise Bernikow's picture

New York women won the right to vote in 1917 by turning the city into a
unique landscape for activism and street theatre. Among other things, they
called the Statue of Liberty a "symbol of hypocrisy," since women actually
had no liberty if they couldn't participate in the U.S. democracy.
