On February 21, 2017, H-Net Council voted to de-commission H-Risk-and-Safety. The network has been largely unused and ran without editors an extended period of time. Rather than continuing attempts to revive an unused network, we suggest H-Risk-and-Safety’s 119 subscribers choose some of H-Net's other larger and more active networks in related fields from among our 180+ networks.
Oxford Brookes University is pleased to offer a full-time PhD Studentship in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, starting in September 2017. Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship on The Air Disaster in Post-War Britain, c. 1940-1990, which will be co-supervised by Dr Tom Crook and Dr Viviane Quirke. This proposed PhD project offers an outstanding student the chance to conduct research into an entirely neglected aspect of the history of risk and the culture of safety in post-war Britain: the aeroplane crash or “air disaster”.

Network members will hopefully be interested in a book just published by Palgrave: Governing Risks in Modern Britain: Danger, Safety and Accidents, c.1800-2000.

H-Net is happy to announce a few new features.
Your Profile on H-Net now has a field for Dissertations and Theses in progress. H-Net Profiles are searchable by name, email, and interest, and people do look so we encourage you to fill in your profile.
Subscribers will hopefully be very interested in the CfP below - this looks like a great workshop, and hopefully a report will be featured here in due course. Deadline for proposals is 29 February, so only a bit of time to be thinking about this. Further details of the workshop to follow when the programme is known.
Call for Papers: Accidents & the State in the 20th Century
The current network editors - Amy Gangloff and myself - are quite aware that things are a little quieter on H-Risk than we'd hoped or wanted. So, we're looking to get things a bit more active - and to that end, we'd like to enlist the help of any subscribers out there who might be interested in playing a role.
