The Stuff of Science, Medicine and Technology

H-PhysicalSciences  is happy to collaborate with H-Material Culture and H-Sci-Med-Tech  to mine the rich vein of overlapping interests between Material Culture Studies and History of Science. All of our fields are interdisciplinary, span the humanities and social sciences, and weave together complementary epistemologies and methodologies. On top of all that, both fields enjoy looking at “things”!

On this page (and you will see identical pages on H-MaterialCulture and H-Sci-Med-Tech) we will post contributions from H-Mat’s 1650 members, H-Sci-Med-Tech’s 3950 members, and H-PhysicalSciences' 300 that engage with the materiality of science, medicine, and technology. These might be discussion posts or queries on scientific instruments past or present, analysis of particular objects from the science world along the lines of our own Occasional Objects series, images, informative posts about collections and archives, CFP’s, syllabi...

We encourage questions, comments, and discussion among the diverse groups this collaboration will bring together. Many will find overlapping areas of interest here, but we do not all do what we do the same way, or ask the same questions, or begin with the same presumptions. The editors of the H-Material Culture, H-Sci-Med-Tech, and H-PhysicalSciences see in these differences the possibility of an enriching and informative cross-pollination of ideas through posts and discussion on this page.

You can participate by posting to any of these networks in the usual ways. The Editors will make sure your post winds up here. You can also reply to anything posted here to jump right in.
