Event: Eat, Drink & Be Merry? The Politics of Food & Drink: Food, Ethics and Power (06 Sept)

The British, Irish and Empire Studies Program at the University of Texas at Austin (BIES) announces the second session of our Fall 2022 virtual speaker series, "Eat, Drink and Be Merry? The Politics of Food and Drink." Scholars Sasha Garwood and Elsa Richardson will look at "Food, Ethics and Power" in very different eras. Garwood explores "The Skull Beneath the Skin: Women, Sex and Food Refusal in Early Modern England," while Richardson examines "Love at the Crank's Table: Sex, Politics and the Natural Diet." Texas A&M's Troy Bickford, author of _Eating the Empire_, will chair.

We will convene at our usual time, noon CDT, 6 p.m. GMT, on Tuesday, September 6.
