New film on beauty, body image, bullying, and disabilities

Amy Aquilino Discussion

Hi All,

I am attaching some information about a new film from Women Make Movies that might be of interest to you:

ON BEAUTY: http://www.wmm.com/filmcatalog/pages/c920.shtml

ON BEAUTY is the winner of the Best of Show (K-12) Award at this year's National Media Market! ON BEAUTY addresses issues of health, body image, bullying and disabilities. From Emmy®-nominated filmmaker Joanna Rudnick and Chicago's Kartemquin Films comes a story about challenging norms and redefining beauty. ON BEAUTY follows fashion photographer Rick Guidotti, who left the fashion world when he grew frustrated with having to work within the restrictive parameters of the industry's standard of beauty. After a chance encounter with a young woman who had the genetic condition albinism, Rick re-focused his lens on those too often relegated to the shadows to change the way we see and experience beauty.

The ON BEAUTY team has created an educational guide that includes an accredited lesson plan designed to help young people rethink how we see and treat beauty in ourselves and others.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I am always happy to accept requests for reviewing the film in an appropriate journal.

Thanks for supporting independent women filmmakers!

Best,

Amy Aquilino
