I'm looking for fellow scholars to join a panel or roundtable proposal for the "1977-2017: The IWY National Women's Conference in Retrospect," November 5-7, 2017 at the University of Houston. Here is the call for papers: http://classweb.uh.edu/iwynatlwomensconf/call-for-papers/.
I'm researching/writing about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and I hope to organize a panel or roundtable discussion that uses the participation of low-income women and the economic debates/demands at the 1977 conference as an opening to discuss low-income women's political engagement in the last third of the twentieth century and/or to explore the relationships between self-defined feminist organizing and low-income women's activism. I think that a roundtable highlighting new scholarship around these themes would be particularly valuable at this moment.
