The Department of History at Auburn University invites applications for a non-tenure-track instructor in Latin American history. The appointee will be responsible for teaching four courses per semester including an introductory-level survey of Latin American history, upper-level undergraduate classes in the field, and the department’s two-semester core undergraduate sequence in World History. Area of specialization within Latin American history is open.

The one-year appointment, with possibility of renewal for two additional years contingent upon need and satisfactory performance, will begin on August 16, 2023. Ph.D. in History prior to employment is desired, but outstanding candidates who are in the final stages of doctoral candidacy (ABD) will be considered.

This is a 100% teaching appointment; no service or research will be expected or considered in evaluating the candidate for contract renewal. However, Auburn University is an R1 institution, and the Department of History supports research activity for its instructors by providing some travel and other professional development funds to instructors and other non-tenure-track faculty.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment, excellent communication skills required.

Applicants will be required to attach a letter of interest, CV, unofficial graduate transcripts, sample syllabi (for two classes at different levels), statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three letters of recommendation. Candidates may be asked to submit a writing sample at a later point in the search process.
