Getty Research Institute Digital Resources for Latin America

Compiled by Jonathan Saxon

This list includes titles for open access online digital resources for Latin America available through the Getty Research Institute (GRI). The GRI’s digitized resources include photographs, maps, and drawings covering a range of eras and topics. The list below is organized by country.

For a discussion on the GRI’s resources for Mexico, see my H-Net blog posts, “Aztec Archaeology to the Mexican Revolution: A Digital Photohistory at the Getty Research Institute,” and “Art and Archaeology: More Digital Resources from the Getty Research Institute.” For a fuller discussion on the GRI’s digital resources for Mexico, see my article “Digital Resources: Getty Research Institute Digital Exhibitions and Portals for Mexico” published online and in print by the Oxford Encyclopedia for Latin American History.

To view the resources below:

  1. Go to the Getty Research Institute’s Library Catalog at primo.getty.edu.
  2. Click on the search bar and type (or copy/paste) the title of the collection you wish to view.
  3. Click “Online access available” to view images.
  4. Click the title of the collection to view additional catalog information and citation tools.

A note on catalog information and citations: on occasion, the GRI’s catalog information includes misspellings or incorrect formatting. It is important to type incorrect spellings when conducting your search to match how the item is cataloged. Incorrect citation formatting identified by the author or editor of this list was corrected before publication. Similarly, the GRI catalog information often does not include accents and symbols used in Spanish or Portuguese. The author and editor of this list inserted Spanish and Portuguese language symbols where needed.
