Ohio State's Daniel Rivers (author of Radical Relations: Lesbian Mothers, Gay Fathers, and Their Children in the United States since WWII) has published an essay titled "The Road to Same-Sex Marriage: Lesbian Mothers, Gay Fathers, and the American Family" in Origins: Current Events in Historical Perspective that might interest readers. He places children at the center of the debate over same-sex marriage rights in the United States.

ASMEA Seventh Annual Conference: Searching for Balance in the Middle East and Africa

The Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) will hold its Seventh Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., October 30 – November 1, 2014.

This year’s conference titled, “Searching for Balance in the Middle East and Africa,” will feature:

Hi all,

 

We are looking for a potential fourth panelist on an AAS 2015 panel, organized around the general theme of time, with related themes of labor, gender, and the everyday.

 

Currently, we have three papers and a discussant.

 

The first paper, from Buyun Chen (Swarthmore College), draws on preliminary work on 17th CE manuals in China, and it will deal with the management of women’s labor and work in the extended household.
