My name is Melissa DeVelvis and I am the new social media editor for H-SAWH. I am excited to share our two new accounts: on Twitter @HNetSAWH (https://twitter.com/HNetSAWH) and on Instagram @H_SAWH (https://www.instagram.com/h_sawh/). They are now linked in our "Resources" menu as well. Please give them a follow!
In addition to boosting our H-Net posts, such as job opportunities and CFPs, I am excited to use our social media platforms to engage with our members. I hope to institute activities such as “Mentorship Mondays,” in which a senior H-SAWH member takes questions from early-career historians, and perhaps “Woman Crush Wednesdays (#wcw)” on Instagram where members can submit a historical figure (man, woman, nonbinary) that either deserves more attention or is central to their work. Taking a page from the very-funny twitter account of the MERL (Museum of English Rural Life), the Instagram and Twitter accounts could post submissions of our followers’ favorite, or strangest, archival finds.
I eventually hope to host “twitter takeovers” or at the very least, interviews, with our members in which they can share their thoughts on research, life, etc. The accounts will also share larger excerpts of the H-SAWH book reviews and, if possible, tag the account of the reviewer and author. I have always been drawn to the openness of the SAWH, and I think that now more than ever is a great time to launch accounts that foster both support and a bit of levity.
Feel free to respond here, via Twitter or Instagram, or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any ideas for our social media. Hope to see you all soon on the internet!
