In recognition of the 100thanniversary of women’s suffrage, the editors of American Jewish Historycall for papers on the subject of women and gender for a special issue of the journal. .

 

Possible topics include, but are certainly not confined to: 

 

**the social, cultural, political, organizational, religious, and economic experiences of American Jewish women in the home/family, workplace, communal spaces, and the public sphere

**the social, cultural, political, organizational, religious, and economic experiences of American Jewish men, viewed through the lens of gender, in the home/family, workplace, communal spaces, and the public sphere 

** women’s experiences of discrimination, inequality, and violence, both within and outside the American Jewish community

**historical considerations of American Jewish women and men and the natural environment. 

**the historical experiences of Jewish women from different ethnic and immigrant backgrounds, sexual orientations, and regional locations, as well as work that compares the experience of Jewish women with those from other ethnic and racial backgrounds.  

**literary, religious, and social scientific analyses that consider the history of American Jewish women and men from gendered perspectives.

**transnational dimensions of American Jewish women’s historical experiences, as well as comparative analyses of the experience of women in different contexts

** historical analyses of women and gender in the Americas, including Central and South America and Canada

 

Please send abstracts of not more than 300 words, a short bio, as well as any inquiries to the journal managing editor, Nick Underwood (nunderwood@ajhs.org), by February 28, 2019.  Full articles based on accepted abstracts should be 6,000-10,000 words in length and be submitted by June 30, 2019 for peer review. Accepted articles will be published in American Jewish History in 2020
