The Association invites historians of all fields to submit proposals for the 2019 Annual Meeting. We welcome proposals on a wide array of topics in Southern,  American, Native American, Women’s History, African, European, Asian, and World History. We encourage proposals from related areas of interest to historians, such as innovative pedagogy, historical research methods, digital archives & databases, Museum Studies and Public History. We welcome historians at all phases of their careers, from graduate students to retired faculty. Presentations are limited to twenty minutes.


Papers presented at the meeting are eligible for peer review publication in the Association’s journal, The Proceedings of the South Carolina Historical Association.


Proposals for complete sessions are encouraged, but individual proposals are also welcome. Use the SCHA Facebook page to connect with other members for panels. All presenters must be, or become, members of the SCHA. For membership dues and privileges please see:

The deadline for proposals is January 4,  2019 at   8pm If your  proposal is accepted,   you will be notified by January 28.   Deadline for submitting papers to session chairs is February 25, 2019.

The committee is arranging hotel rooms and a Friday night event in historic downtown Aiken.    See you in Aiken,   SC  March 9th 2019!



Call for Session Chairs/Commentators: SCHA frequently needs members who are interested in helping out at the annual meeting by chairing sessions. If you are attending the annual meeting in 2019 but not presenting a paper we hope you will consider submitting yourself as a session chair/commentator.   If  interested please submit your name, your research areas and what kind of sessions you might be comfortable chairing outside those specialties (i.e. graduate student papers on any topic, Latin America, Women’s History - any time period, etc.).
