The FSU HGSA is now accepting submissions for the ninth annual Southeast Regional Graduate Student Conference, which will be held on 3 March 2017, at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

The History Graduate Student Association of Florida State University invites all graduate students in the humanities and social sciences to join us. The theme for the conference is "Oppression and Resistance." The conference is designed to foster collaborative academic environment and provide networking opportunities for participating scholars.

The FSU HGSA will accept either individual submissions or full panels which discuss oppression and resistance by addressing the interplay between these two sides of conflict. Papers may address conflict on any scale, from individuals to groups or institutions, and investigate the chosen conflict through relevant sociocultural factors such as gender, sexuality, class, race, religion, ethnicity/nationality, etc.

Questions you may consider, but are not limited to, include: What factors led one group to oppress another? How have individuals or groups responded to oppressive situations? What has caused individuals or groups to respond to oppression with resistance? What forms has this resistance taken? What role have sociocultural factors played in resistance? How have oppressive groups responded to resistance? What has happened in the aftermath of oppression? How have societies responded to the changes caused by oppression or resistance?

To apply for the conference, submit a titled one-page abstract, either single- or double-spaced, and a one-page C.V. to southeastregionalgrad@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is 16 January 2017. All proposals will be acknowledged, with notification of acceptance by 1 February 2017. Presentations must be limited to 15 to 20 minutes.  Conference rooms have AV capability.
