University of Central Oklahoma
The Central Dissent: A Journal on Gender and Sexuality
Call for Papers
You are invited to submit a paper for possible inclusion in the second issue of The Central Dissent: A Journal of Gender and Sexuality. The Central Dissent is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary academic journal housed in the University of Central Oklahoma’s Liberal Arts College, which is sponsored by UCO's Women’s Research Center as well as the BGLTQ+ Student Center, and published through New Plains Student Publishing.
Being the first and only academic journal focused on gender and sexuality in Oklahoma, our mission is to gather and disseminate quality research, fiction, personal stories, prose, poetry, artwork, and academic reviews that explore gender theory, gender identity, as well as how race, class, and ethnicity shape society’s expectations of the individual both currently and historically.
The Central Dissent aims to provide a platform for researchers, poets, writers, and artists to present new research and developments in these areas through various mediums, including:
Scholarly Reviews
Research Papers
Fiction
Creative Non-Fiction
Poetry
Prose
Art
The overarching theme for this issue is “Sexual Health,” however all submissions will be reviewed and considered. Areas of interest for this journal issue include, but are not limited to, gender and sexuality, including bisexual, gay, lesbian, trans, and queer identities. Any analysis of these topics through considerations of race, ethnicity, class, or other subjectivities is welcome.
Those who wish to participate will need to submit their full work by email to the Editorial Board with the title, author(s)/creator(s), photographs if submitting artwork, and abstract. The full manuscript, as a PDF file, should be emailed to the Editorial Board by March 16, 2018.
