Beyond the Agrarians and Erskine Caldwell: The South in 1930s America

Co-editors Karen L. Cox and Sarah E. Gardner invite proposals for an edited volume examining the South in the decade of the 1930s with the intention of exploring topics that move us beyond a response to the Nashville Agrarians and Erskine Caldwell to a more inclusive and nuanced exploration of the region.  We invite submissions from the fields of history, literature, geography, and American Studies, as well as musicology, sociology, political science, and anthropology. Proposals from scholars at all levels, including doctoral students are welcome.

Please send an abstract of 350-500 words to Karen Cox (kcox@uncc.edu) and Sarah Gardner (gardner_se@mercer.edu) by May 1st.
