Title: Southern Promise and Necessity: Texas, Regional Identity, and the National Woman Suffrage Movement, 1868-1920.
Publisher: Ph.D. dissertation, University of North Texas, 2010.
This history dissertation shows how Southern activists connected with the national movement for women's rights in the earliest stages. Texas offered several generations of woman's rights leaders who became important to the national organizations as early as the 1860s. The interdependency of Texas, which introduced woman suffrage resolutions many times over the course of fifty years, and the national organizations is showcased in this study.
