Author: Behling, Laura L.
Title: The Masculine Woman in America, 1890-1935.
Publisher: Urbana and Chicago: University of Illinois Press
Date: 2001
Focusing on the ideas and illustrations pertaining primarily to white women in the era of the New Woman, Behling's book is very useful in understanding the complexities of this time period in American history. Her second chapter, "Unsightly Evidence: 'Female Inversion' and the U.S. Woman Suffrage Movement" (pp. 31-59), in particular offers a useful series of analysis on pro- and anti-suffragist writings and cartoons.
