Title: "Women, Their Rights and Nothing Less: The First Amendment and the Women's Suffrage Movement."
Publisher: NewseumEd. Washington D.C.: Newseum. n.d. https://newseumed.org/
This curated collection of lessons, handouts and primary sources can be found among the network of the NewseumEd (see overview video on YouTube here - https://youtu.be/mN8BbN1PTq4). The lessons are labeled as useful for middle or high school of all kinds of teachers interested in addressing civil liberties, but many of the activities seem closer to 6-9th grade civics learning outcomes. Several of the lessons can be adapted to challenge high schoolers as well as supporting Advanced Placement courses focusing on themes of civics and citizenship. This module can also serve as an excellent starting point for educators who are unfamiliar with U.S. women's history.
The network requires registration via a free personal account and includes newsletters about the freely available interactions in person at the Newseum Institute (headquartered in Washington D.C.) as well as a regular presence on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. This module comprises three units (Historical Connections, Media Literacy, Civics & Citizenship), each offering three lessons (estimated to last about 90 minutes) which focus on the role of the press, public expression and the woman suffrage movement. This module is co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and is endorsed by the National Council for the Social Studies.
