Title: The Land of Long Ago
Publisher: Little, Brown, and Company
Date of Publication: 1909
Annotation: The second collection of short stories by Eliza Calvert Hall, the pen name of Eliza Calvert Obenchain. Like her other work, Aunt Jane of Kentucky, The Land of Long Ago includes stories with women’s rights undercurrents. This work is particularly interesting because of “Aunt Jane Goes A-Visiting” which tells the story of rural, Western Kentucky native Aunt Jane going to visit her granddaughter in Lexington. While in the city, Aunt Jane not only gets to see the home of Henry Clay, but also attend a meeting of the local women’s club, where a character similar to Laura Clay makes an apperance.
