Title: Local Women: The Public Lives of Black Middle Class Women in Kentucky Before the 'Modern Civil Rights Movement.'
Publisher: Ph.D. dissertation, University of Kentucky, 2013. UKnowledge Theses and Dissertations -- History. 22.
We finally receive in December 2017 the long-awaited access to Dr. McDaniel's dissertation which as been embargoed since its completion in 2013. This is a crucial piece to the history of Kentucky that has been waiting for publication: the role of Kentucky's African American club women from the late 1800s through the early decades of the 20th century in local, state and national contexts. The foundational aspects of the networks these women created are important in understanding the work undertaken in the mid- to late-twentieth century. The Appendices include lists of the Kentucky Association of Colored Women's Clubs and Presidents from the time of their founding in 1903.
