Virtual screening - Day of the Western Sunrise by Colby College

Viktor Shmagin Discussion

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to announce that Colby College is hosting an online screening of Day of the Western Sunrise. The film's Director and Producer, Keith Reimink, will introduce the movie in a Zoom webinar and take questions from the audience after the online screening. This event will take place on the evening of Monday, the 19th of April, from 7pm until 9pm, 9:30 at the latest.

Day of the Western Sunrise is an animated, Japanese language documentary about the crew of the tuna trawler Daigo Fukuryū Maru, or The Lucky Dragon No. 5. On March 1st, 1954, the fishermen onboard the Lucky Dragon survived the biggest explosion ever caused by humans, the Castle Bravo thermonuclear test in the Pacific Ocean. The film tells how their lives were forever changed while showing the long-term impact of this devastating event.

Sponsored by the Departments of History, East Asian Studies, Cinema Studies and the Colby College Center for the Arts and Humanities.
