Title: Call for Paper Submissions – Chinese Latinxs

Published annually since 1987, Chinese America: History and Perspectives—the Journal of the Chinese Historical Society of America, a peer-review journal published by the Chinese Historical Society of America is currently accepting articles for its 2021 Special Issue that will focus on Chinese Latinxs. The journal welcomes research on any and all aspects of Chinese Latinxs: Chinese Mexicans/Mexican Chinese Americans; Cuban Chinese; Latin-American Chinese, and Chinese Hispanic American histories. Articles of interest are local histories of Chinatown throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, or oral histories of Chinese Latinx individuals and families. This special issue welcomes works that help provide a better understanding of the experiences of the Chinese population who migrated to Latin America and the Caribbean regions during the 19th and 20th century, that led to the formation of a new cultural identity: Chinese Latinxs. We welcome comparative studies on the Chinese Latinxs among diasporic communities worldwide. Submissions may include but are not limited research articles (preference for historically grounded research), genealogies and family histories, oral histories, local community histories, historically related narratives, and personal essays related to, directly or tangentially, Chinese Latinxs.

Contributors are encouraged to submit an abstract prior to submitting a full paper. The deadline for the abstract submissions is Feb. 15, 2021. Abstracts should be no longer than half a page, single space. After the initial reviewing process, full articles for the selected abstracts should be submitted by March 1, 2021. The word count range must be between 3000-8000 words, not including references and endnotes. Photographs are welcome as long as contributor can grant copyright permission, and provide a high resolution version of it.

All accepted authors will have to be or become members of Chinese Historical Society of America before their works are published by the journal. Membership information is available at: http://chsa.org/support/membership/

Manuscripts should be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style.

Chinese America: History and Perspectives is a scholarly indexed journal available through EBSCO, PQ, JSTOR, Libris, etc.

As a pointer:

  • Avoid footnotes.  All notes should be placed at the end of the article as endnotes.

Contributors will be sent a copyedited proof for review before publication.

About CHSA
The Chinese Historical Society of America promotes the contributions and legacy of the Chinese in America through its exhibitions, publications, and educational and public programs in the Museum and Learning Center. The Chinese Historical Society of America Museum is the oldest organization in the country dedicated to the interpretation, promotion, and preservation of the social, cultural and political history and contributions of the Chinese in America. When founded in 1963, there were fewer than 250,000 people of Chinese descent living in the US and CHSA was a lone voice for the study and dissemination of the history of this segment of the US population. Today, as the number of Chinese in the US has risen to nearly 4 million, CHSA strives to be a responsible steward of the remarkable narrative of this rapidly growing and increasingly visible community. We are housed in the landmark Julia Morgan-designed Chinatown YWCA building at 965 Clay Street, San Francisco.
