Leiden University invites applications for a Lectureship in modern Korea studies, particularly the study of state and society of the Koreas in the modern and contemporary period. We welcome applications by scholars whose work shows sensitivity to historical and cultural contexts and an excellent command of the relevant source languages. Certainly in teaching and preferably in research, the lecturer will engage with the wider (East) Asian context. More generally, s/he will be able to position the study of Korea in transnational and global configurations. Ability to teach on premodern Korea will be an advantage. Application deadline: 16 March 2015. Appointment will be fixed-term from August 2015 through July 2018, with the possibility of extensions and a permanent position thereafter. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break. Application guidelines:
