SEC/AAS Book and Article Prizes

The Southeast Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (SEC/AAS) requests nominations for its annual book and article prize competitions. Applications are due November 30, 2019, and winners will be announced at the SEC/AAS annual meeting in 2020. Nominations should be made directly by the author, who must be or become a member of SEC/AAS. To be eligible for the book or article prize, the submission should have a 2018 publication date, treat a topic in Asian Studies, and have been been written or researched primarily in the SEC/AAS region of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.


For the article prize, applicants should submit pdfs via e-mail with “SEC/AAS article prize” in the subject line to Dr. Krista van Fleit Hang (


For the Graduate Student Paper Prize, applications should submit pdfs via email to Dr. Lane Harris (


For the book prize, applicants should send three hard copies to Dr. Lane Harris.
