Displacements in South Asia – Call for Proposals
April 20-21, 2018
Kolkata, West Bengal, India
We invite paper proposals for a workshop exploring displacements in South Asia, to be held in Kolkata, West Bengal on April 20-21, 2018. The workshop is a node of the Society for Cultural Anthropology’s virtual meeting, Displacements, which will be held online from April 19-21. The Kolkata workshop aims to bring researchers in anthropology and related disciplines (e.g., cultural geography, history, sociology, cultural studies) together to engage in substantive theoretical and methodological conversations around displacements in South Asia. In addition to providing close readings and feedback on participants’ papers, the workshop also aims to stimulate wider discussions of the conference theme through engagement with the online meeting.
The two-day workshop will include an SCA conference viewing session, paper presentations, and a plenary panel with community leaders working on issues of displacement followed by a keynote address. We are delighted to share that Professor Manas Ray of the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta will deliver the keynote address.
