We are delighted to invite submission of abstracts for the White Rose South Asia PGR Symposium at the University of Sheffield on 11th and 12th June 2018. This two-day interdisciplinary symposium aims to bring together postgraduate researchers on South Asia to present on aspects of South Asian history such as marginalised historical agents, voices or hidden stories that have been under-represented. Themes may include (but are not restricted to) pre-colonial, colonial and postcolonial histories; migration, mobilities, and diaspora; literature, arts and films; contemporary politics and society; gender studies; and religious and cultural studies.
The symposium will include a series of PGR panels around the broad theme South Asian Studies: Voices Through History, a keynote speaker, and a workshop specifically for PGR students within the South Asian Studies field, in which we will discuss opportunities and challenges in ‘Teaching South Asian History’. We will also be considering publication of articles with the White Rose University Press, should there be enough interest in that.
If interested, please submit your abstract (300 words max) and short biography (150 words) as well as any queries by contacting ourselves at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Your abstract should contain a synopsis of the paper you intend to deliver—including proposed title, research ideas and outcomes. The deadline is the 31st of March. Limited travel and accommodation funding will be offered, so please indicate in your email whether you would also like to apply for that.
