New book: Unmarked Graves: Death and Survival in the Anti-Communist Violence in East Java, Indonesia

My new book may be of interest to H-Asia members. It examines the rise, destruction and attempted resurrection of the Indonesian Communist Party (Partai Komunis Indonesia, PKI) in East Java, using a combination of oral history interviews and documents that had hitherto not been analysed. The book takes a long perspective on the violence, looking at the rise of the PKI in East Java, the massacres and detention, and the attempts afterwards by remnants of the PKI to regroup and rebuild the party.
