Lecturer in South Asian Religions/Islam

Position No.00005732. The Department of Religious Studies in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University invites applications for a non-tenure track, renewable position in South Asian Religions at the rank of Lecturer. The position requires in-person teaching in Dallas beginning August 15, 2023. The teaching load is four classes in each of the fall and spring semesters. Service expectations include attending departmental meetings, mentoring, and engagement with diverse students and colleagues across the university. Contract renewal and promotion to Senior Lecturer is contingent upon performance.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Religious Studies or related field at time of appointment, ability to teach courses in Asian Religions, Topics related to Religions of South Asia, Contemporary Islam. Proven ability/interest in and commitment to teaching.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to teach courses on Religion and Gender, Women and Islam, Social Scientific methodologies, and courses that would contribute to the minor in Asian Studies; experience mentoring culturally diverse students; interest in contributing to a robust graduate program in Religious Studies and broader culture of excellent teaching on campus.
