The Faculty of History, Art and Area Studies seeks to fill the following professorship as soon as possible:

Professorship in Tibetology
(W2 with tenure track leading to W2)


Duties
In addition to teaching on the BA/MA degree programmes at the Institute of Indology and Central Asian
Studies, the duties of the post holder include supervising academic theses, promoting junior scholars,
and participating actively in academic self-administration at the Institute. We expect the successful
candidate to contribute to Leipzig University’s strategic research profile, in particular the profile area
Global Connections and Comparisons and the Research Centre Global Dynamics (ReCentGlobe). The
holder of the position will also be expected to develop their own project ideas within this research
context that contribute to further profile building, and to apply for external funding.


Requirements
We are looking for a Tibetologist with extensive teaching and research experience and an excellent
publication record in the field of Tibetan Buddhism. Requirements for employment are an above-
average doctorate and a habilitation or other equivalent achievements. Proof of profound knowledge of
classical Tibetan is a prerequisite, and of modern Tibetan is desirable. We expect the successful
candidate to be willing to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation within the framework of collaborative
research at Leipzig University and to have knowledge of innovative methods at the interface of philology
and Area Studies. A profile within the field of tension between classical tradition and contemporary
cultural developments is desirable.
The future holder of the position will also be expected to actively contribute to the development of new
concepts of interdisciplinary teaching in Regional Studies in the relevant BA/MA degree programmes
at Leipzig University, including a planned English-language interdisciplinary degree programme in
Buddhist Studies. The application should present teaching experience and ideas on teaching.
